Alaska cruises are very popular for a very good reason — they provide a great experience in visiting otherwise difficult-to-access regions in South East Alaska. This article attempts to address most issues related to such cruises for the information of future travellers. As such it deals predominantly with mainstream cruises, however small ship cruises and Alaska ferry travel are also briefly addressed toward the end of the article. Both types of cruises are almost always for seven days duration. Seattle based round trip cruises also have a compulsory docking in a Canadian port under the antiquated U.

Celebrity Solstice Cruise Reviews ( UPDATED): Ratings of Celebrity Solstice
For anyone booked on an Alaskan cruise they have their own forums. I found it quite frustrating not being able to find information until I realized it. Go to cruisecritic. I'm not sure why you had such difficulty finding Cruise Critic. It is TA's sister site owned by TA and often referenced on this forum. If you look under Top Questions at the right side of the page under the heading of "Planning an Alaskan Cruise ", you will find a lot of information including references to both Cruise Critic and Cruisemates.
The first result is a paid advertisement. I just wish cruise critic had the same format - I don't care for its set up at all. Just my opinion - would like it just like tripadvisor! I took a look and it confused the heck out of me. But I'm not a knowledgeable user of their website. It took me awhile to get my bearings on TA too. I had no idea when I commented on months old trip reports I had dig up to read that I was bringing it to the top of the front page.
If you are cruising, it is good to use all of these to research your trip. You can also access Cruise Critic from the main Trip Advisor page, then go to the "More" tab near the top center, and then " Cruises ". Go to the top of that page and look at "Reviews". I love the "Reviews" tab where I can find information on cabin reviews, Port reviews, ship reviews, etc.
I think everyone should sign up for their Roll Call on Cruise Critic which can be found at: www. That included everything that can be done in Port whether is was to locate Wifi, find a restaurant, find a tour operator, get reviews and contact numbers. If you have an active Roll Call for your Ship and departure date, you will find that group very beneficial. I have signed up for every Roll Call, and sometimes even organized them.
The Roll Call group will usually meet up on the first or second day of cruising. We've made permanent friendships by meeting up with our Roll Call groups. Hope this helps. I have spoken with a couple other people now that didn't even know it existed. I agree with everyone that finds it clunky compared to TA but I have been able to find my way around. Not a lot of activity so I wondered if others were having the same difficulty finding it. I hadn't found that section yet.
Even though we have booked and we are only a month out I still love to gather all the info I can. The roll calls, which I find to be the only useful feature of CC, depends on the region for the cruise , and obviously the people posting in. By way of an example, the roll call for my cruise in another region in just over two weeks time has at present 83 posts from about a dozen people and not one useful bit of content amongst the lot.
For two other cruises though I have organised small groups to do excursions with local providers using small vans, and that has worked well. The forums on CC are full of the blind leading the blind, lots and lots of totally off topic chat and misinformation, with only a few really knowledgeable posters interspersed amongst the babble. Others may not share my opinions, but I finally gave up on CC many years ago when someone asked what coloured handbag she should take on her cruise to Alaska.
I agree that CC and the Roll Call can be hit or miss. On our cruise from Singapore, many had done alot of research and we organized all of our excursions through the Roll Call. I wasn't worried about matching my purse but now that you mention it what was the answer?
